Peabody Bank Robber Gets Prison Time After Guilty Plea
Leo Willwerth, 31, of East Boston, is facing charges in two other bank robberies.

PEABODY, MA -- A man who fled in a taxi cab after robbing a Peabody bank last summer will spend the next 3 1/2 to 5/12 years in prison. Leo Willwerth, 31, of East Boston, had pleaded guilty to the Peabody robbery but is still facing charges in two other bank robberies in Boston.
Willwerth claimed he had a bomb when he robbed the Bank of America branch on Andover Street on June 11. At the time, he had been recently released from prison for prior robbery convictions. He told police his drug addiction had prompted him to rob the three banks in June.
