Peabody Businesses Go Purple To Raise Alzheimer's Awareness

Local business and civic leaders have planned a week's worth of programs and activities from Sept. 8-13.

From the City of Peabody: The City of Peabody will go purple from Sept. 8-13 to help raise awareness of Alzheimer’s disease, and to show support for residents affected by the disease. Local business and civic leaders have planned a week’s worth of programs and activities, all of which support the Northeast Massachusetts Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Sept. 15 at Brickstone Square in Andover.

“The City of Peabody has really rallied around this initiative, and we are so grateful for their support,” said Lauren Ritchie, Senior Development Officer for the Alzheimer’s Association Massachusetts/New Hampshire Chapter. “Over 150,000 people are living with Alzheimer’s in Massachusetts and New Hampshire, and events like this provide much-needed support for these patients, their families and caregivers.”

Activities include a virtual walk, a “Senior Day” at Brooksby Farm, a “Purple Night Out” at Granite Coast Brewing and a “Know the 10 Signs” presentation at the Black Box Theater. The Civil War Monument will also be lit purple. Residents are also encouraged to sign up for the Northeast Massachusetts Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Sept. 15 at Brickstone Square in Andover by visiting alz.org/walk. The funds raised at the walk will support research, care, and support for those living with Alzheimer’s and their families.
