Peabody Council Rejects Special Permit For Proposed Sex Shop

City Council members said the proposed location in a shopping plaza that attracts young people prompted the decision.

PEABODY, MA -- You'll have to drive to Norwood, Auburn or Seekonk if you want to at an Adam & Eve Superstore in Massachusetts. Peabody City Council voted 6-4 Monday to reject a special permit application submitted by Scott McGregor of South Hadley, who wanted to open a franchise of the adult store in a shopping plaza on Route 1 south that currently has a Workout World fitness center, Namco Pool and Mass Bay Hockey Center.

The store would have sold a range of adult products, including vibrators, handcuffs, bondage tape, collars and leashes. It was not immediately know if MacGregor will appeal City Council's decision.
