Peabody Main Street Reopens After Morning Apartment Building Fire

Peabody police said there was a working fire at an apartment building in the area of Littles Lane around the time of the morning commute.

PEABODY, MA — A portion of Main Street in Peabody was closed and police warned of traffic disruptions getting to Danvers and Salem as crews battled a building fire in the area of Littles Lane on Wednesday morning.

Police said at about 8 a.m. that Main Street was closed from Foster to Washington Street and that commuters and residents should avoid the area of downtown.

"All traffic to Salem and Danvers will be disrupted," police said. "Plan accordingly."

Peabody police said that as of about 9:35 a.m. that Main Street had reopened but that it remained congested with traffic at that time.

Reports said that the fire was in an apartment building and that about 30 residents and their pets were evacuated.
