Peabody Firefighters Graduate State Firefighting Academy

A Peabody firefighter was the recipient of the outstanding student award.

Mayor Edward A. Bettencourt, Jr. and Fire Chief Steven E. Pasdon are pleased to announce that Firefighters Daniele Barrasso, Michael Coleman and Joseph Morgan graduated from the 235th class of the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy’s forty-five-day Career Recruit Firefighting Training Program on October 30.

“This rigorous professional training provides our newest firefighters with the basic skills to perform their jobs effectively and safely,” said State Fire Marshal Stephen D. Coan.

“I join all Peabody residents in congratulating Firefighters Daniele Barrasso, Michael Coleman and Joseph Morgan who recently graduated from the 235th class of the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy’s forty-five-day Career Recruit Firefighting Training Program. We are grateful for their commitment to public service, fire safety and to the City of Peabody.” said Bettencourt.

26 Graduates from 15 Fire Departments

There were 26 graduates, all men, who represented the 15 fire departments of: Agawam, Ashland, Bourne, Boxford, Charlton, Clinton, Everett, Hyannis, Malden, Methuen, Northbridge, Peabody, Reading, Sharon, and Taunton. The Massachusetts Firefighting Academy (MFA), a division of the Department of Fire Services, offers this program tuition-free. The ceremony took place at the Department of Fire Services in Stow, MA.

Peabody Firefighter Michael Coleman was competitively selected by the course instructors as the recipient of the Richard N. Bangs Award given to the outstanding student of the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy Recruit Class # 235. This achievement is based upon his achievements on both academic exams and practical skills
