Peabody Gets School Safety Grant

The district will use the money for security cameras at Peabody High School.

From The City of Peabody: Mayor Edward A. Bettencourt, Jr. is pleased to announce that qualified Peabody veterans can work-off up to $400 on their property tax bills by driving their fellow veterans to medical appointments at the VA hospitals in Bedford, Jamaica Plain, and West Roxbury.

“I have heard from many veterans that getting to and from the VA hospital can be quite an ordeal,” said Mayor Bettencourt. “Having a fellow veteran drive them to their appointment might relieve some of the burden; And providing the veteran doing the driving with a modest tax abatement creates a win-win.” Mayor Bettencourt credited City Councilor-at-Large Ryan Melville for proposing that the city implement the tax work-off as a pilot program. The Mayor also recognized Honda North for donating an Odyssey minivan to the city to transport the veterans.

“The tax work-off program reflects our city’s high standards of caring for our veterans and managing the overall tax burden,” said Councilor Melville. “As a veteran, and someone who has worked with Veterans Services Officers across Massachusetts, Peabody is second to none in terms support given to military veterans.” Those veterans interested in the tax work-off program should contact the Office of Veterans Services at 978-538-5928. Veterans who wish to schedule a free ride to the VA hospitals should contact Veterans Services as well.
