Peabody Girls' Soccer Powers Onward
Soccer and cross-country clubs continue to perform late into the season.

The Lady Crusaders had another perfect set of games this week, improving to 12-0-2 (9-0-1 NEC). After defeating Lowell and Marblehead, GIRLS' SOCCER wrapped up the Northeastern Conference crown Thursday night, along with sending Danvers off with another loss, 4-1, this season to the powerhouse. The Lady Tanners only have two more conference games scheduled (Beverly, Monday, 4 p.m., and Salem, Wednesday, 4 p.m.) before hosting cross-town opponent on Saturday (11:30 a.m.).
The Tanners fell to 3-3, losing to a powerful Chieftain's squad Friday night. The loss, 35-9, also puts Peabody FOOTBALL at 2-0 in the CAL/NEC Tier 1 division. Masconomet recorded five TDs in the the first three quarters before Peabody was finally able to cross the line in the fourth -- Jason Hiou had a 13-yard run and then the team racked up points on a safety. Next up for the Tanners is hosting Lynn English on Oct. 28. (7 p.m.).
BOYS' CROSS-COUNTRY raced ahead of conference opponent Danvers this week, 18-45, while the GIRLS' squad took its race, 22-35. Both Tanners' teams remain unbeaten at 6-0. Next up is Beverly Tuesday (3:45 p.m.) and then the NEC League Meet Saturday (9 a.m.).

BOYS' SOCCER improved to 9-4 this week, dispatching Marblehead and Billerica, but dropping the mid-week re-match with Danvers. The Falcons took a win at home, 4-2. Peabody hosts Gloucester Monday (7:30 p.m.), travels to Salem Wednesday (4 p.m.) and is then back home against Central Catholic on Thursday (4 p.m.) and Everett Friday (4 p.m.)
FIELD HOCKEY fell to 7-4-3 after two straight defeats at the hands of Beverly and Danvers this past week, also the two front-runners in the Northeastern Conference. Peabody hosts Marblehead Monday (4 p.m.), travels to Saugus Wednesday (3:45 p.m.), then to Revere Friday (4 p.m.) and back at home Saturday to host Everett (10 a.m.).

VOLLEYBALL didn't have a great week, losing first to Lynnfield and North Andover, but the Tanners picked things back up on Friday against Lynn English, 3-0. Peabody is now 8-6 and plays North Reading Monday (4 p.m.), hosts Lynn English for another match Tuesday (4 p.m.) and then Hamilton-Wenham Friday (4 p.m.).
GOLF competed in the Northeastern Conference Open at Kernwood Country Club on Tuesday. Athan Goulos shot 81 for a sixth place finish. Andrew McCarthy also placed well, shooting an 87. The Tanners' match with St. John's Prep was postponed to TBA and then lost to Beverly 42.5-29.5, falling to 2-6 for the season. On Monday, Peabody golfers compete in the Division I North tournament at Beverly Golf and Tennis Club (9 a.m.).
Bishop Fenwick
Fenwick FOOTBALL was crushed by Hamilton-Wenham last Saturday but roared back for its second win of the season against Archbishop Williams, 35-0, on Friday night. Mike Dainis and Rufus Rushins each contribued a pair of TDs with the fifth by Fran Hannon. The Crusaders, 2-5, travel to Cardinal Spellman next Friday (7 p.m.).
BOYS' SOCCER moved ahead to 8-5-2 this week, dropping a close one to Archbishop Williams, followed by defeat from Cardinal Spellman, but redemption against North Shore Technical High School on Friday, 2-1. The Crusaders play away at Marian High School Monday (4 p.m.) and host Arlington Catholic Wednesday (7 p.m.).
GIRLS' SOCCER picked up two straight, defeating Danvers and then Archbishop Williams and tied things up with Cardinal Spellman, 1-1, Wednesday. The Lady Crusaders (7-2-5), host Matignon High School Monday (4 p.m.), visit Arlington Catholic Wednesday (4 p.m.) and take on cross-town opponents Peabody Saturday (11:30 a.m. at PVMHS).
FIELD HOCKEY knocked off Central Catholic, 5-4, before another victory Monday against Pentucket, 3-1. Friday's game with Masconomet was a 0-0 draw, however, and puts the Crusaders at 6-8-2 for the season. Three home games this week: Beverly Monday (7 p.m.), Georgetown Thursday (3:30 p.m.) and Medfield Friday (3:30 p.m.).
The Crusaders' VOLLEYBALL club (11-6) shut out Saint Mary's this week, but then fell to Melrose and North Reading before picking up another win against Lowell on Saturday in a rescheduled match. then Melrose Wednesday (5:15 p.m.) and North Reading Friday (5:15 p.m.). Fenwick travels to Austin Prep Tuesday (5:15 p.m.) and hosts Archbishop Williams Thursday (5:15 p.m.)
BOYS' and GIRLS' CROSS-COUNTRY compete in the Catholic Central League Meet Thursday (3:30 p.m.) at Franklin Park.
The Fenwick GOLF team failed to find a win this week either versus Arlington Catholic, 182-146.
