Peabody High Alumna Awarded $3K George & Rachel Shaw Scholarship

PEABODY, MA — Peabody Veterans Memorial alumna Sofia Valencia was awarded the annual George & Rachel Shaw Scholarship toward her studies at Tufts University.

The $3,000 scholarship is funded by Sylvia Foster Marble in honor of her parents. Valencia was presented with the scholarship at the annual Awards Dinner on May 22.

Valencia is a 2022 PVMHS graduate where she was the secretary of the National Honor Society and volunteered more than 100 hours at St. John's parish.

She is a sophomore at Tufts University where she is studying biopsychology with a minor in child study and human development.

Valencia is the president of the Philippine Student Union, a safety officer for the Tufts Gymnastics team, and is a member of the Tufts Pre-Physician Assistant Society, Boxing Club and Ballroom Dance team.

She said her goal is to become a physician's assistant.
