Peabody High School Librarian Receives Statewide Award

Lynda Moylan is credited with transforming the high school's library since she started in 2015.

From the Massachusetts School Library Association: The Massachusetts School Library Association has named Lynda Moylan, school librarian at Peabody High School, as a recipient of the 2018 Massachusetts School Library Association M.S.L.A. (Massachusetts Super Librarian Award).

This award honors an MSLA member who has demonstrated excellence in their school library programming, curriculum, or made a significant contribution to their school through the library.

Ms. Moylan started at Peabody High in 2015 and has transformed the school library. No longer a silent room of books where teachers only brought their classes down to use the computers, it is now a bustling collaborative space that includes innovative technology. The Peabody High School Library boasts a green screen area, a 3D printer, a student-run IT Help Desk and a 1:1 Chromebook program.

Students and faculty have welcomed the school-wide reading challenge and the expanded library hours for student lunches. Moylan collaborated with a special education teacher to create the Tanner Maxx, a free store that offers clothes, accessories, and school supplies to students. An ongoing project for Moylan is the creation of a school-wide research process model.

Ms. Moylan will receive the award on Sunday, March 31, 2018 at the MSLA Awards Banquet at the Sheraton Framingham Hotel & Conference Center. This awards ceremony is a part of the MSLA Annual Conference, “School Libraries are for Everyone.” She will also participate in the IdeaLab, featuring projects/initiatives from the Peabody High School library program.
