Peabody Holding First Online Surplus Auction
Need a school bus? How about a retired fire pumper? Online bidding is now open for those and more than 30 other items.

PEABODY, MA -- Bidding opened in Peabody's surplus items auction this week. And while the city regularly sells old vehicles and equipment in auctions, this auction has a twist. It's the first time the city will accept bids in an online auction.
As of Wednesday afternoon, a 1994 E One Sentry Pumper truck the city's fire department had retired was up to $940 after 93 bids. A 2006 Freightline school bus was fetching $105. Other items include dump trucks, a wheelchair van and an ambulance.
The auction is being conducted by Auctions International. "The large number and varied type of equipment surplus to the City of Peabody at this time lent itself to the efficiencies of an online sale. The City expects an online sale will attract a large number of interested bidders to buy the 35 items," the city said in a news release.
