Peabody Institute Library To Host Spring Free Concert Series

The free concerts scheduled for the Sutton Room begin on Jan. 30 and run through June 5.

PEABODY, MA — The Peabody Institute Library is bringing back its free indoor concert series for the spring season starting later this month.

The concerts, which are scheduled for the Sutton Room, do require pre-registration. Registration opens one month before each show.

Concerts are set to be in-person this season but may be held virtually if health conditions require.

Concerts are sponsored by the Peabody Institute Library Foundation and the McCarthy Family Foundation.

Somerville singer-songwriter Karen Grenier, a former Peabody Public Schools guidance counselor who now works in the Somerville school district, begins the season on Jan. 30 with a collection of original works and covers of songs that she said have provided inspiration to her in her life. She is also set to play on April 24.

Peabody native Stephanie James, who splits time between Greater Boston and Los Angeles, will perform on Feb. 6 with a "stunning" and "soulful" collection of songs that tell "masterfully touches the hearts and souls of her fans." She will also play on April 3.

Aine Minogue will play her own harp compositions as well as Celtic favorites on March 6.

She is prominently featured on numerous compilations, many of which spent months on the Billboard 100 music charts in world, folk, new age and classical categories. Minogue is also a frequent contributor to TV soundtracks. She will also play on May 15.

Folk duo Hungrytown will bring their 1960s revival set with a contemporary perspective to the PIL on March 27. Rebecca Hall and Ken Anderson have been featured on "The Daily Show" and "Portlandia."

The New England Chamber Players will perform their chamber musician show on May 1.

Sean Gaskell will perform the kora, an ancient 21-stringed harp from West Africa, with a set of "traditional songs that are the heart and soul of the kora's musical repertoire on June 5. The North Carolina-based Gaskell has performed at more than 350 libraries, schools, colleges and assisted living facilities across the country.
