Peabody Looks To Return Nearly $70K In Abandoned Property

The city has set up an online unclaimed property list where residents can check to see if they have money due them.

PEABODY, MA — Nearly $70,000 in abandoned property and money is up for grabs in Peabody for those who are entitled to it.

Peabody Mayor Ted Bettencourt on Monday said a list of hundreds of residents and businesses has been compiled at the city's treasury and that an online database was set up to help those get back what should be theirs.

"I am committed to returning these funds to their rightful owners and we have streamlined the process to make it as simple and convenient as possible," Bettencourt said.

Those residents and businesses whose names appear on the list can fill out a claim form that includes the requirement of a valid signature and a valid mailing address for processing. Claim forms must be received by Jan. 1, 2023.

Once the city receives and verifies the claim, checks for the amount of the abandoned property will be distributed within the next eight weeks.
