Peabody Mayor to Host Fifth Grade Olympiad

Mayor Edward Bettencourt is hosting a fifth grade Olympiad on June 7.

Peabody is turning 100 and Mayor Edward Bettencourt is hosting a fifth grade Olympiad as a birthday celebration.

Fifth grade students from each Peabody elementary school will compete in a series of events to take home the Mayor’s Cup on Tuesday, June 7. The Olympiad will begin at 9 a.m. and is part of the City’s Centennial Celebration, according to a city press release.

Mayor Bettencourt will host the fifth grade Olympiad which will take place at Peabody Veterans Memorial High School.

“The Fifth Grade Olympiad offers a great chance for fifth graders from across Peabody to come together in a spirit of friendly competition,” Mayor Bettencourt said in a press release. “This may be the first opportunity to meet some of their peers prior to joining them next fall at the new Higgins Middle School.”

Family and friends are encouraged to watch the competition from the bleacher stands at Coley Lee Field. Participating students and organizers will be the only ones allowed on the field.
