Peabody Nail-Biter Goes 13 Innings with Lancers
Peabody gave up a solid five-run lead in the eighth to end nine innings tied up at five. The Tanners finally bested Malden Catholic in the bottom of the 13th, knocking in the winning run.
Malden Catholic put a good scare into the Peabody Tanners’ baseball club Saturday, surging back from a five-run deficit late in the game to tie it up and send the contest into extra innings.
Pat Ruotolo pitched the nine innings for Peabody to be relieved by Nick Allen. Finally, in the bottom of the 13th inning, Stephen Girolamo swatted a double hit to send a pinch runner across the plate to end the game.
The Tanners, now with just a full day’s rest, take the home field again to host Lawrence Monday at 5 p.m. Lawrence began the tournament seeded right behind Peabody and defeated Cambridge R&L on Friday, 4-1.
