Peabody Nationals Take Down West Lynn

With the bases loaded and no outs, Peabody's Pat Maguire came in to relieve starter Jack Palmachuck in the bottom of the sixth inning. Maguire hit a batter, then struck out two and ended the game with a dribbler to the mound.

The Peabody Nationals are still alive in District 16 Little League tournament play, pulling out a win over West Lynn American on Tuesday, 3-1, to rebound from on Sunday.

Peabody manager Eric Dollin said that with his team batting first, the momentum just built from there.

“We were patient at the plate,” Dollin said, noting his team also made little room for error in its overall play.

A handful of Peabody runners got on base to start the game and the first two runs came in the top of the third when Jake Zueli knocked a two-run homer to center field. The third run for Peabody came in the top of the fifth.

On the mound, Jake Palmachuck pitched into the sixth inning, striking out five, walking two and only allowing one hit. He was relieved by Pat Maguire who ended the game after beaning a batter to give West Lynn its only run and then retiring two batters and making the third out on a dribbler to the mound.

“[The win] was exactly what we needed to get back on track,” Dollin said. He also gave credit to their opponents.

[West Lynn] is a very good team...they forced us to make plays,” he said.

Peabody National faces Lynn Shore next on Thursday (5:45 p.m.) in Swampscott.
