Peabody Police Dog Gets Credit For The Collar
A suspect in a domestic dispute was no match for the two-year-old German Shepherd's keen sense of smell.

PEABODY, MA -- Peabody Police are crediting Caine, the department's police dog, with helping apprehend a suspect Saturday. When police responded to a domestic disturbance on artmuth Street, the suspect had already fled and, because the parking lot had been plowed, they could not find footprints to track the suspect.
Enter Caine and his handler, Officer Corey Salvo. Caine was able to pick up the suspect's scent at his last known location. He followed the scent through the parking lot and along a wooded pathway, deep into a wooded area.
In a Facebook post, the department said Caine began puling harder on his leash and Caine alerted other officers that they were getting closer to the suspect. Once spotted, the suspect quickly surrendered and was arrested. "Officers. K9 Caine was once again a valuable asset to the PD in the apprehension of a suspect," the department said.

Caine, a two-year-old German Shepherd, is still technically a rookie on the force: he started last February. Salvo and Caine's training, as well as the outfitting of a police cruiser to transport Caine, was paid for by a grant from the Stanton Foundation.
