Peabody Police To Provide Officers With Home Gun Safes
The safes will be purchased through a federal grant from the U.S. Department of Justice.

PEABODY, MA — Peabody police officers will each be provided with a safe to store their duty weapons while at home with the help of a U.S. Department of Justice grant.
Chief Thomas Griffin said the new gun safety program was borne out of conversations with the International Association of Chiefs of Police about ways to ensure firearm safety within officers' homes.
Griffin said Sara Grinnell of the Healthy Peabody Collaborative successfully wrote the federal grant obtained through the Department of Justice to purchase the gun safes.

"Gun safety has and always will be a priority and we feel this is an excellent use of resources," Griffin said. "Although our officers have the ability to safely store their service weapons at the station, I take comfort in knowing that each of my officers has the ability to safely secure their guns at home if needed."
