City officials, police, fire, and emergency personnel gathered on Friday morning for a 9/11 remembrance ceremony at the Central Fire Station.
The event was held to remember and honor those who lost their lives, those who lost loved ones, and the first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice on this day 14 years ago, according to the Peabody police.

“Today marks the 14th anniversary of a series of cowardly attacks on the World Trade Center, Pentagon, and our nation as a whole,” said Mayor Ted Bettencourt. “That day, September 11, 2001, we all experienced deep emotion and heartbreak for the thousands of lives lost, including two people from Peabody-Janis Lasden and Christine Barbuto. Despite the passing years, I can assure you that we have not and will never forget. I still hold tight to the remarkable courage, touching compassion, and incredible strength we witnessed from our police, firefighters, EMT’s and everyday citizens who inspired me and countless people across our country and around the world.”
“Please take a moment today to reflect on those tragedies and remember in your hearts those we have lost,” Bettencourt added.
