Peabody Resident Received Teaching Excellence Award

Wendy Ellis, Peabody resident and Landmark School teacher, wins teaching excellence award

On May 5th, Wendy Ellis, resident of Peabody, MA, faculty member and speech language pathologist from Landmark School in Manchester and Beverly, MA, was honored with the Albert E. Trieschman Memorial Award for Exceptional Direct Service to Children. The Massachusetts Association of 766 Approved Private Schools presented Ms. Ellis with the award at their annual conference.

Wendy was nominated by Landmark School colleagues and honored for her 29 years as a Direct Service Practitioner in Special Education. The award notes her varied career in Speech Language Pathology including direct service, clinical management, consultation, private practice, and mentorship.

Rob Kahn, Head of Landmark’s Elementary•Middle School, where Wendy has been working for the past eight years said, “What Wendy's resume doesn't say, and what she would never share, are the qualities that make her so valued and beloved to all of us: collegiality, warmth, focus, intelligence, creativity, dedication, and a world-class energy level, to name just a few.”

In Ms. Ellis’s acceptance speech she said, “For the past eight years, I have had the privilege to work with the wonderful students, teachers, and parents at Landmark, a school for students with language-based learning disabilities, such as dyslexia. The dedication and passion of the teachers and staff in the Landmark community is palpable.”

The Massachusetts Association of 766 Approved Private Schools (maaps) was founded in 1975 as a statewide association of approved private special education schools dedicated to providing educational programs and services to students with special needs. They serve 87 schools and over 7000 students.

Rob Kahn, who attended the award ceremony said, “It was such an honor for Landmark to be represented by an exceptional educator of Wendy's caliber.”

Landmark School is an independent, coeducational boarding and day school located on two campuses in Beverly and Manchester, MA with elementary, middle, and college preparatory high school programs. It serves students, grades 2 – 12, with dyslexia and other language-based learning disabilities. Students possess average to above average intelligence and normal behavioral development. Landmark’s mission includes an extensive outreach program of professional development courses, workshops, and publications for educators, administrators, clinicians, and parents.
