Peabody Restaurant Wants To Convert Property To Rooming House

The owner of the closed Peabody Coffee House on Walnut Street wants to add eight units in the first floor space.

PEABODY, MA -- City Council will consider a special permit application Thursday to convert the first floor space of the Peabody Coffee House to eight rooming house units. The restaurant at 59 Walnut Street is closed and there are already nine rooming house units on the second floor. The property is owned by William Skouras, who is partnering with North Shore Community Action Programs on the project, according to an application submitted with the city.

Last year the property's lodging license was held up as the property owner worked to update fire sprinkler systems. The license, which expired on Dec. 31, was granted by City Council in August.
