Peabody, Salem Team Up To Tackle North River Corridor Conundrum

PEABODY, MA — Peabody and Salem are joining to help try and find a solution to the increased flooding and erosion along the North River corridor.

The cities will hold a joint virtual public forum on the issue on Jan. 25 at 6 p.m. The cities recently collaborated with the Solomon Foundation to create a path through the area to connect the neighboring cities. Along with that, the cities are undertaking a study to examine the increased flooding and erosion between Grove Street and Howley Street.

The flooding and erosion threaten the active freight rail corridor and Peabody's main sewer line to the South Essex Sewerage District's treatment plant, as well as the proposed path.

There will be multiple opportunities for the public to participate in this project, with the first forum including information from the cities, their engineering consultant and the Salem Sound Coastwatch.
