Peabody Sets Street Closures, Downtown Plans For 41st International Festival

PEABODY, MA — Peabody's International Festival is set to return on Sunday with a full day of food, entertainment and family activities downtown.

A rain date of Oct. 4 is set, pending the weekend nor'easter.

The free event will run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Street closures tied to the festival will be in place from 6 a.m. until 9 p.m.

They include Central Street from Railroad Avenue to Peabody Square southbound, Lowell Street from Chestnut Street to Peabody Square, Foster Street from Franklin Street to Peabody Square, Wallis Street from Main Street to Walnut Street, Nichols Lane from Main Street to Summer Street, Littles Lane from Elliott Place to Main Street for residents only, and Main Street from Peabody Square to Washington Street.

This year's event is expected to include more than 65 food booths serving ethnic foods along Main Street. Three food trucks are also planned at Courthouse Plaza.

"Year after year, the community gathers at the International Festival to celebrate the vast cultural diversity of our city. With a wide variety of food, music, art, entertainment, and activities, there is so much to experience and truly something for everyone. I hope to see you and your family downtown," Mayor Ted Bettencourt said.

Festival activities will be spread across several downtown locations.

The Galleria will showcase local art at 81 Main Street, and the Artisan Market will be set up along Foster Street. Live entertainment is planned in three locations: Peabody Square, upper Main Street and Foster Street.

Families with children can head to the Kids Corner at East End Veteran Memorial Park, where children's activities are planned.

The International Pavilion will be located behind TruNorth Bank, and vendors hosted by the Peabody Area Chamber of Commerce will be based in the TruNorth Bank parking lot.
