PEABODY, MA — State Rep. Thomas Walsh (D-Peabody) is bringing back his pop-tab collection drive to benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities for a second summer.

The drive, which collects the tabs at the top of aluminum soda cans and other beverages for recycling with funds raised to benefit the charity, will run through Labor Day. Ronald McDonald House Charities provides housing and hospitality for families of those staying in Boston and Rhode Island while their relatives receive medical treatment at renowned hospitals.

"Donations through the pop-tab campaign help us provide all the comforts of home to families staying with us who are experiencing the most challenging medical crises," Ronald McDonald House Charities New England CEO Gretchen Manning said.

Last year's inaugural collection drive accumulated more than 40,000 pop-tabs that were then returned as scrap metal with money going to the charity.

Manning said direct donations of needed items such as laundry detergent and bed linens can also be made to Ronald McDonald House Charities through wish list purchases at Target and Amazon here.
