Peabody Teen Killed in Single Car Crash on Sunday Night

Alex Vitale was a senior at Malden Catholic High School.

Alex Vitale, a 17-year-old Peabody resident and a senior at Malden Catholic High School, was killed in a single-car accident in Peabody on Sunday night.

According to Peabody police, Vitale’s car hit a utility pole on Summit Street, near Forest Street around 10:45 p.m.

Officers arrived and located one occupant of the vehicle entrapped behind the wheel with obvious serious visible injuries.

Peabody Fire arrived and the occupant was extracted from the vehicle.

Vitale was taken to Lahey North Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Vitale was the only person in the car. The accident remains under investigation with the assistance of the Massachusetts State Police accident reconstruction team.

“It is with deep sadness that Malden Catholic mourns the loss of senior Alex Vitale,” a message on the Malden Catholic website stated on Monday morning. “Alex was active in student life, including Lancers In Action, Lancer Buddies and swimming. He will be greatly missed.”
