Peabody Traffic Detours Set For Central Street Work This Week

Central Street work in Peabody will bring daytime detours, with local access maintained whenever possible.

PEABODY, MA — Peabody drivers will see detours and street closures this week as MDR Construction begins roadway rehabilitation work on Central Street for a temporary bypass tied to Phase 3 of the water system project.

The work is scheduled for Tuesday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.

Traffic control measures will be in place during the work zone to protect motorists, pedestrians, bicyclists and construction personnel, while maintaining access for emergency vehicles and local traffic whenever possible.

A detour is in effect for outbound traffic traveling from Peabody Center toward Wilson Square. Drivers will turn left onto Warren Street, then right onto Endicott Street and continue to Wilson Square.

Inbound traffic traveling from Wilson Square toward Peabody Center will remain free-flowing during the project.

There also will be secondary detours for drivers coming down Tremont Street toward Central Street. Those drivers will be sent left onto Wallis Street, right onto Elm Street and then left onto Central Street.

Tremont Street will be closed at Wallis Street for any vehicles heading toward Central Street.

Warren Street will be closed at Crowninshield Street during the project.

"Local Traffic Only" signs will be installed so residents can still reach their homes and businesses in the area.

The work is part of the Central Street Rehabilitation Project. The document identifies MDR Construction as the contractor and says the roadway operations will focus on a temporary bypass for Phase 3 of the water system.
