Peabody Trash Pickup Reliability To Improve With Landfill Pact: Mayor

Mayor Ted Bettencourt said a new agreement will allow Republic Services to dispose of trash and recycling in Danvers instead of Haverhill.

PEABODY, MA — Trash and recycling delays plaguing Peabody in recent months should soon see significant improvement from a new landfill disposal agreement, according to Mayor Ted Bettencourt.

Bettencourt said on Wednesday that the new pact will allow Republic Services to dispose of trash and recycling in a Danvers landfill instead of having to drive the trucks all the way to Haverhill and then back to Peabody.

"Trash and recycling delays have been far too common across the city in recent months," Bettencourt said on Wednesday. "I have heard from many residents who are understandably upset
about the delays and I understand and share their frustration."

Bettencourt said the change in disposal venues will not result in additional costs or disposal fees for Peabody residents.

"As always, bad weather and other unexpected circumstances may result in delayed pickup," Bettencourt said. "In general, however, I am confident that service will improve considerably beginning this week."
