Peabody West Softball Clinches Pair of Sectional Titles

Peabody West fast pitch softball is proving to be a staying power, and it's only the second year of competitive play for the Tanner City kids at the Little League level.

First, the Major League All-Stars (11- to 12-year-olds) , followed by the .

The majors were defeated in the sectional tournament, first by Woburn and then losing a re-match to East Bridgewater. The junior leaguers took two straight over their sole opponent Wakefield, however, for the sectional title (16-4 and 10-9).

Then the senior league team entered the picture. There is no organized district tournament for the older teens, therefore they went straight to the sectional tournament against Wakefield as well, and likewise commanded two wins (8-3 and 15-5).

The seniors will play Westfield in the state tournament. Westfield just won its sectional Thursday night against Winchendon. The juniors, meanwhile, will play Charlton for the state title.

The state final games will be played in Worcester on Saturday.
