Peabody West Stunned by Stoneham
The Peabody West All-Stars suffered their first loss in the Sectionals tournament in eight years Thursday night after Stoneham started putting runs on the scoreboard early in the game.
The last time Peabody West faced Stoneham in the Section 4 Tournament was in 2008, and in both contests, handed their opponents sound losses. In fact, the last time Peabody West lost a Sectionals contest was in 2003.
That wasn’t the case Thursday night in Tewksbury, however. Stoneham got out to an early lead and was up 6-1 by the end of the fourth inning.
Peabody West knocked in five runs late in the game to Stoneham’s three and appeared poised to close the gap further, but was denied the chance.

Stoneham received a sound beating by the Andover Nationals on Wednesday, 19-3, just after Peabody , 22-1. Danvers, however, did not make a comeback against Andover Thursday night, losing by a solid margin.
Peabody now plays the Andover Nationals Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Tewksbury’s Poulin Field. The championship game will be held on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. between the top two teams in the tournament.
