Police: Burglary at a Welding Business, Items Valued at $5,700 Taken; Salem Man Arrested For Operating Under the Influence; Raccoon Bit 12-Year-Old Cat

Sunday, April 26

At 2:42 p.m., burglary at a welding business on Summit Street. Break and enter; no sign of forced entry. Doors were left unsecured at business. Six pieces of 20-foot pipe valued at $700 each were taken, a sheet of aluminum of bar grading valued at $1,500 was taken, and other items were missing. Under investigation.

At 3:51 p.m., break and enter motor vehicle. Two vehicles were broken into at the business; there was no sign of forced entry. Several tools were missing from one of the two vehicles.

At 6:54 p.m., disturbance on Central Street. Report of a domestic between a man and woman. Man fled the residence with a young child. BOLO put out over the North District for the vehicle. Salem Police stopped the vehicle and took the man into custody on warrants. Rowie Sterling, 21, of Peabody, will receive a summons for two counts assault and battery, and one count of malicious destruction of property over $250 and one count malicious destruction of property under $250.

At 7:29 p.m., report of a person passed out behind the wheel of a car in the area of St. Thomas the Apostle Church on Margin Street. Carl E. Fuller, 29, of Salem, was arrested for operating under the influence of drugs, possession of heroin.

Monday, April 27

At 8:16 a.m., suspicious activity on Forest Street. Report of possible hunters equipped with bows and arrows in woods off of Forest Street near the golf course.

At 8:36 a.m., animal control officer on Baldwin Street. Caller left voicemail message reporting her 12-yr-old, black male cat was bitten yesterday by a raccoon. She also stated she was scratched while trying to separate the animals and did not know which animal caused the injury. The raccoon ran off. Officer called her back, and she stated the cat, Giuseppe, was taken to Bulger Animal Hospital for treatment. She also confirmed she sought treatment for her wound and has started the rabies shots. Officer told the woman there would be a 45-day quarantine for the cat.

At 9:54 a.m., license plate stolen from vehicle sometime overnight on Newbury Street.

At 1:41 p.m., fraud on Lowell Street. The resident reported a fraudulent account was opened under her name.
