UPDATE: Police Say Dispute Led to Stabbing; Suspect in Custody

A 23-year-old Peabody man is being charged with attempted murder for allegedly stabbing a 51-year-old New Hampshire man multiple times.

Police say a 23-year-old Peabody man has been arrested in connection with the stabbing at a Farm Avenue home Tuesday afternoon.

George Moise, 23, of 19 Farm Ave. -- where the stabbing occurred shortly before 1 p.m. -- was taken into custody Tuesday night and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (a knife) and attempted murder.

Police say the attack was allegedly the result of a domestic dispute between Moise and the victim, who has been identified by police as Robert Kowalchik, 51, of New Hampshire. Kowalchik was stabbed multiple times in the abdomen and transported from the home to Mass. General Hospital in Boston.

Police say he is currently listed in serious condition at the hospital.

The investigation was conducted with Peabody patrol officers, detectives and assistance from the state police. Police have not released any further information at this time.

Police said a 9-1-1 call came in at 12:43 p.m. Tuesday, alerting them to a possible stabbing at a home at 19 Farm Ave., which is near Dearborn Road. Officers arrived at the scene to find Kowalchik, who was quickly taken to the hospital via ambulance.

While Moise was not immediately identified as the suspect in the case, police indicated the person was known to them, according to radio transmissions at the time.
