Police: Officers Nab Fleeing Man For Shoplifting, and 7 Warrants; Plumbing Truck Sideswiped Vehicles and Left; Large Potholes Reported

Monday, March 23

At 5:47 p.m., minor motor vehicle accident on Ellsworth Road. Witness reported seeing a plumbing truck sideswipe two parked vehicles. Joseph J. Silva Jr., 23, of Amesbury, will be summonsed to court for two counts of leaving the scene of a property damage accident.

At 11:09 p.m., assist other police department at Summit Plaza on Summit Street. Officer assisted a trooper on a car stop.

Tuesday, March 24

At 11:07 a.m., traffic hazard. Large series of potholes on both sides of Prospect Street from Felton Street to Tomah Drive. DPW notified.

At 12:22 p.m., traffic hazard on Lowell Street. Large series of potholes from 777 to 781 Lowell Street (Lone Pine Lane to Lynnfield line). DPW notified.

At 3:58 p.m., suspicious person on Lynn Street. Anonymous caller reported a suspicious female. Caller believed that the female was looking into peoples yards.

At 4:41 p.m., motor vehicle accident at Five Corners, Winona Street. Single car slid off the roadway and bumped into a pole. No visible damage to the pole. No injuries.

At 6:40 p.m., assist citizen on Pleasant Drive. Caller reported that a roommate broke the lock off his fridge and stole some food.

At 8:54 p.m., shoplifting at Sears. Officer assisted with a shoplifter. Officer reported that the suspect fled the store, but was apprehended near on Route 114 near Jiffy Lube. Luiz E. Gomez, 21, of Salem, was arrested for shoplifting and on seven warrants.

Wednesday, March 25

At 6:27 a.m., suspicious vehicle on Summit Terrace. Caller reported a blue sedan with tinted windows parked on the grass, and that it appears out of place in the neighborhood.Reporting party stated they male occupant of the vehicle stated he was waiting on someone when the vehicle was approached. Officer stated the man in the car was a private investigator, and will be checking in at the police station shortly.

At 10:39 a.m., suspicious activity on Howley Street. Officer out with a person who threw drugs into the sewer. Two other parties fled the area down the railroad tracks into Salem. Salem PD notified. The two parties were found on Harmony Grove Avenue in Salem. Fire Department contacted, who assisted with retrieving the drugs from the sewer. Drugs were disposed of.
