Puritan Law Readies For Memorial Day
The Peabody cemetery has released a complete schedule of events.

From Puritan Lawn Memorial Park: Puritan Lawn Memorial Park in Peabody will honor all Veterans past and present on Sunday, May 26th, 2019 at 11 a.m. at their annual Memorial Day Service. The service is held at Puritan Lawn's Veterans Circle in the cemetery and all are welcome to attend and pay tribute to the men and women who have served our country.
Notable attendees at the service include Lynn English JROTC, the MIT Police Honor Guard, and Doug VB Goudie an author and radio talk show personality. Doug VB Goudie will recognize and present $7,000 in scholarship awards on behalf of the Puritan Lawn Educational Foundation. The foundation established in 1999 recently held an essay contest, “What are the greatest threats to our Democracy” and the response and articulation of the topic was inspiring. The essays with names and cities removed for anonymity were reviewed by a diverse panel of judges that included Peabody Mayor Ted Bettencourt. The first-place essay winner Hayliana Howes of Lynn English High School will be awarded $5,000 and the two runners up Dashon Jones of Lynn English High School and George O’Donnell of Bishop Fenwick High School will each receive $1,000 scholarships.
Our Veterans will be honored throughout the weekend with the annual Boulevard of Flags display that includes 50 U.S. casket flags on loan from family members to be proudly flown along Pierce Boulevard. Smaller U.S. flags and flower arrangements for placement on individual graves are currently available and will continue to be offered throughout Memorial Day weekend. All proceeds from the sale of flags and a raffle at the service will be donated to support The Officer Sean A. Collier Self Sponsor Scholarship.
