Peabody Veterans Memorial High School football begins a season with high expectations with an away game against Wellesley on Friday, Sept. 11.

The Tanners are coming off a 7-4 season and should expect a close contest from Wellesley, who finished 6-5 last year.

The Tanners will be looking to make a big impression in an attempt to move up in the state rankings. ESPN Boston has Peabody as one of the 10 teams outside the state’s top 25 looking in.
