UPDATE: Route 1 Crash Caused Commuter Delays
Both sides of the highway were closed due to the crash.

Peabody, MA -Shortly after 10:30 a.m., State Police reported that a motor vehicle crashed into a utility pole on Route 1 Southbound just before the jughandle.
Wires were reported down on both the north and southbound sides of the highway, and the State Police stated that commuters should expect detours and delays as emergency personnel deal with the situation.

Both sides of the highway remained closed at 12:30 p.m., according to the state’s Department of Transportation.
By 3:30 p.m., the Northbound lanes of the highway was reopened as well as a lane on the Southbound side of the highway, although the jughandle remained closed.

The woman involved in the accident was able to walk away from the car, according to reports.
