Special Permit Hearing for Marine Storage Facility Could be Pushed to November

Neighborhood meeting was scheduled for Wednesday night, city has concerns over taxes.

The developers of a proposed marine storage facility on Foster Street are requesting that a special permit hearing before the City Council be pushed back until November.

The permit hearing is on the agenda for Thursday night’s council meeting. However, the attorney for the developers has requested continuing the hearing until the council’s Nov. 12 meeting.

The continuance would give the developer time to digest potential input from a neighborhood hearing scheduled for 6 p.m. on Wednesday at the Council on Aging at 79 Central Street.

The developer is requesting a special permit to operate a marine storage facility without service or repairs at 60 Foster Street.

In the packet submitted to the City Council, several town departments have some questions about the project. There would be some boats stored both inside and outside the facility.

The treasurer’s office states that there is an outstanding tax title issue that should be settled before a special permit is granted.

The Conservation Commission also commented that the project needs its approval before moving forward and expressed concerns about the project’s buffer zone near the Waters River.

The fire department recommended that no fuel be left in the boats and no fuel be store on the site.
