Speliotis Named Legislator of the Year by Mass School Committees

Honored for work in helping create the McKinney-Vento line item.

State Representative Ted Speliotis (D-Danvers) received the Legislator of the Year Award from the Massachusetts Association of School Committees (MASC) at their conference in Hyannis last Friday.

MASC’s President Patrick Francomano highlighted the Representative’s work creating the McKinney-Vento line item in the state budget reimbursing cities and towns for the transportation costs of students living in hotels and motels across the state and his strong support for increased funding for local schools.

The award plaque read: “In recognition of your many years of service to the people of Massachusetts as a leader in the legislature and for your pursuit of social and economic justice for children and families of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.”

“I know how hard our local schools work and consistently the results show that our schools are first in the nation,” said Speliotis. “For these reasons I’m extremely proud and honored to receive this award.”
