Christensen Shatters Big Blue XC Course Record [PHOTOS]

A round of wins this week for the Tanners' teams.

Nick Christensen continues to propel the BOYS' CROSS-COUNTRY right along, shattering another course record this week -- this one in Swampscott by 30 seconds. Christensen ran 13:37 on the 2.6-mile course in the boys' 24-31 win.

Coach Joe Rocha said his harriers should have performed even better, had they run more as a team that day.

The GIRLS' XC squad actually fared a little better on scoring, 17-40, with another strong run from sophomore Catarina Rocha (16:07) to lead the Peabody charge. Peabody remains unbeaten at 5-0 and hosts Danvers Tuesday (3:45 p.m.).

GIRLS' SOCCER rolled right past the Big Blue in Swampscott on Wednesday, 4-1, to improve their nigh perfect record to 9-0-2. Peabody hosts Lowell on Saturday (6:30 p.m.) and then travels to Marblehead Tuesday (6:30 p.m.) before hosting Danvers for another soccer showdown Thursday (6:30 p.m.).

BOYS' SOCCER improved to 7-3 this week, clamping down on Beverly Wednesday at home, 7-1. The Tanners' contest with Central Catholic was postponed until Oct. 27 due to rain on Friday. The boys' will host Marblehead next on Tuesday (4 p.m.) and travel to Danvers Thursday (6:30 p.m.) before heading to Billerica Saturday (9:30 a.m.).

FIELD HOCKEY improved to 7-2-3 after defeating Salem, 5-1, on Wednesday. The Tanners host Beverly Tuesday (6:30 p.m.) and head to Danvers Thursday (3:45 p.m.).

VOLLEYBALL was on a roll heading into this week. Peabody, now 7-4, defeated Lowell and Saugus before losing to Masconomet on Thursday. The Tanners host Lynnfield Monday (4 p.m.) and North Andover Wednesday (4 p.m.) and then to Lynn English Friday (4 p.m.).

GOLF dropped its match to Marblehead on Tuesday, 55-1/2 to 26-1/2, and then lost a close one to Salem on Wednesday, 39-33, to fall to 2-5 for the season. A game scheduled for Friday was postponed until TBA. The week ahead for Peabody is a busy one, hosting St. John's Prep Monday (3:45 p.m.), the NEC League Meet Tuesday (noon) and then to Beverly Wednesday (3:30 p.m.).

FOOTBALL was postponed Friday night due to rain until Saturday (7 p.m.) in Revere. The Tanners are 3-1 going into the throw down with the Patriots and then had to Masconomet next Friday (7 p.m.).

BOYS' SOCCER
dropped a close match, 3-2, to St. Mary's on Thursday. The Crusaders are now 7-3-2 and host Archbishop Williams Monday (4 p.m.), visit Cardinal Spellman Wednesday (6 p.m.) and host North Shore Technical High School on Friday (3:30 p.m.).

GIRLS' SOCCER broke its scoreless streak with a 2-1 win over Saint Mary's on Thursday, settling in now for a 5-2-4 record. The Lady Crusaders host Danvers on Saturday (6:30 p.m.), travel to Archbishop Williams Monday (3:30 p.m.) and host Cardinal Spellman Wednesday (6:30 p.m.).

FIELD HOCKEY fell hard at Westford, 7-1, on Tuesday and plays Central Catholic Saturday (4 p.m.). Fenwick is now 4-8-1 for the season and travels to Pentucket Monday (4 p.m.) and Masconomet Friday (4 p.m.).

The Crusaders' VOLLEYBALL club (9-4) swept past Bedford on Friday, 3-0, with a strong performance by sophomore Kate Lipka. Fenwick travels to Saint Mary's Monday (5:15 p.m.) then Melrose Wednesday (5:15 p.m.) and North Reading Friday (5:15 p.m.).

Fenwick FOOTBALL, 1-4, looks for another win Saturday (2 p.m.) against the Generals at Hamilton-Wenham.

BOYS' and GIRLS' CROSS-COUNTRY headed to Lowell Catholic Tuesday and came home with a win for both squads, 27-30 and 20-37, respectively. The Crusaders travel to the Catholic Memorial Invitational on Saturday (9 a.m.).

The Fenwick GOLF team dropped its home match with Austin Prep last Wednesday, 163-147, and is next scheduled to play Arlington Catholic on Oct. 19, still hunting for a win this season.
