State Wants Your Input on Transportation System

Representatives from MassDOT and the MBTA will be on hand at the October 28 meeting at City Hall.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) will hold ‘Capital Conversations’ at City Hall on Wednesday, Oct. 28 at 6:00 p.m.

The forum is designed to give residents and local officials a voice in deciding where future investments will be made in the state’s transportation system.

“We are very pleased that the MassDOT has selected Peabody to host its North Shore region capital planning forum,” said Mayor Ted Bettencourt. “This is a tremendous opportunity to advocate for state investment in our local transportation infrastructure.”

MassDOT and the MBTA are preparing five-year capital plans, blueprints that will guide investments in the state’s transportation system between 2017 and 2021. The Capital Investment Plan (CIP) determines how the agencies prioritize their largest investments, covering all transportation projects – everything from highway and municipal projects to statewide bicycle, pedestrian and rail plans.

“Investing in our transportation infrastructure is critical to our future growth and competitiveness,” said Bettencourt. “This forum is an opportunity to make our voices heard so that Peabody and the rest of the region receive our fair share of state transportation dollars.”
