Survey Shows Peabody Students Want Later School Start Times
Like other districts in Massachusetts, Peabody is considering later school start times.

PEABODY, MA -- More than 7 out of 10 Peabody Memorial High School students would like to see the start of the school day pushed back. The survey of 614 students showed that 83% of respondents would use later school start times to get more sleep. Districts around the country have pushed back or considered pushing back high school start times in light of a growing body of evidence showing adolescents need more sleep than adults and younger children.
The Peabody School District is considering changes to the school day schedule, according to the Salem News, which first reported this story. But those decisions can carry unintended consequences, including problems for school sports schedules and families who rely on older children to care for their younger siblings after school.
