Tanners, Crusaders Line Up for EMass This Weekend

Bishop Fenwick competes on Saturday in the Division IV sectional meet while Peabody High takes the field Sunday in the Division I Eastern Mass. meet.

The Tanners head to Durfee High School in Fall River Sunday, May 27 for the Eastern Mass. Division I outdoor track meet prior to All-States the following weekend.

senior Nick Christensen, of course, will be under the gun in the mile and 2-mile, seeded second in both races, while fellow senior Zack Grube is in for a tough race in the 110 hurdles. The Peabody boys' 4x100 relay team (Nat Gaye, Austin Brewster, Chris Cennami, Vlasi Duni and Scott Myers) is also a top seed along with Grube again in the high jump.

Gaye, Cennami, Brewster and Duni are slated to compete in the 100 with Brewster, Cennami, Gaye and Mike Reardon also running the 200. Nick Ingham and Jason Hiou are down for the 400 (Hiou also for the 800) and T.J. D'Amato, Drew Fossa and Benjamin Braz join Christensen in the mile. Fossa is also on the list for the 2-mile while Tommy Drover and Tomas Martinez take the 400 hurdles.

The 4x800 relay team is Braz, Christensen, D'Amato, Anthony Tedescucci and Fossa; the 4x400 team is Hiou, Grube, Ingham, Joseph Carbone and Martinez.

On the field, in addition to Grube in the high jump, it's Duni and Steven Villani in the long jump, Ben Martinez in the triple jump, Derek Peach in the discus and Drover in the javelin.

On the girls' side, junior Catarina Rocha is the clear favorite in the 2-mile and should give Lincoln-Sudbury's Marika Crowe plenty of pressure in the mile. Incidentally, the meet record for the latter race is still held by Peabody's Lesley Welch, which was set at 4:53.6 in 1981.

Junior Heather MacLean isn't far off the top in the 400, seeded sixth, and No. 3 for the long jump while fellow junior Pam Zabala is also a top seed in the discus.

Rocha will be joined in the mile by Sam Allen, Lauren Barrett and Mary Leach, and likewise in the 2-mile by Barrett, Antonia Pagliuca and Sydney May. Sarah May and Carrera Dean are slated to compete in the 400 hurdles. The 4x800 team is Rocha, Sarah May, Joanne Frangias, MacLean, Allen and Barrett, while the 4x100 team is Sabrina Rizzo, Mary Votto, Katrina Petrosino and Lauren Pelletrino. Rocha, Frangias, MacLean, Sarah May, Alex Butler and Macayla Lachance make up the 4x400 team.

On the field, Petrosino joins MacLean in the long jump, Sarah May is slated for the triple jump, Rocha throws the javelin and Zabala and Katie Gallo are in the shot put.

The Crusaders compete Saturday, May 26 in the Eastern Mass. Division IV meet at North Reading High School.

The top seed for the boys is senior Shawn Farrell (sixth) in the discus, while Charlie Maistrellis is slated for the 200, Dan Deschenes is in the 400, Brian Mendes is in the mile and Chris Poirier and Bryon Blaisdell are in the 110 hurdles.

The 4x100 relay team is Poirier, Shane Alexander, Colby Hufnagle, Maistrellis, Nick Iebba and Nick Tambini, while the 4x400 team is Deschenes, Blaisdell, Mendes, Ian White, Poirier and Iebba.

Joining Farrell on the field, it's Maistrellis in the long jump, and Farrell also throws the shot put with Pat Corcoran.

For the Lady Crusaders, sophomore Rose Fantozzi is a top seed in the 100 and both the 4x800 (Hannah Smith, Taylor Cunningham, Arianna Maida, Faye Haley and Alicia Tatone) and 4x100 (Jess Giglio, Nicole Lizzote, Jessica Patnaude, Fantozzi and Kaleigh Price) relay teams are among the top contenders.

Giglio joins Fantozzi in the 100, Patnaude, Rebecca Mercuro and Lizzote are in the 200, Haley is in the 400, Cunningham and Smith will run the 800 and Maida is the No. 10 seed in the mile. The 4x400 relay team is Jackie Edgett, Amanda Klos, Taylor Anderson, Mercuro and Tatone.

On the field, Margaret Lepley and Haley throw the javelin and Lepley is also slated for the shot put.
