Tanners' Hockey Opens With a Win [PHOTOS]

Peabody boys' hockey opens season, defeating Gloucester.

[Editor's Note: The story has been updated to reflect a correction. The first goal of the game for Peabody came from junior Erik Hennessey.]

The Peabody Tanners took to the home ice Saturday to open their season against conference opponent Gloucester, and walked off from the victorious.

The Fishermen kept the pressure on early, taking the lead, 2-0, until junior Erik Hennessey (his first varsity goal) put Peabody on the scoreboard in the second period on a pass from Mike Vadala, and then the Tanners fired in three more unanswered goals in the third, ending it 4-2. Goals came from Mike Chiappini, Matt McIsaac and Eric Costa.

The Tanners look to make it 2-0 when they travel to Winthrop Wednesday (6 p.m.) to take on the Vikings.

Before Saturday's contest, Peabody took to the ice at Salem State University versus the Lynn Jets for some last pre-season competition. The Tanners scored five times in the first half of the exhibition.
