Teen Charged With Drunk Driving After His Car Crashed Into a House; Walked Back to Retrieve His Bumper

The driver left the scene of the crash, but was caught by police within a short period of time.

Updated: A 17-year-old allegedly drunk driver who fled the scene in his vehicle after crashing through a house around 10 Monday night at 32 Surrey Lane, apparently walked back to retrieve his license plate and front bumper, according to the police log.

The 17-year-old driver, who lives in the neighborhood, was arrested for operating under the influence of liquor, marked lanes violation and leaving the scene of a property damage accident, according to authorities.

The family was at home.

There were no reports of injuries, according to Peabody Police Captain Dennis Bonauito. Police did not release the name of the driver since he is still considered a juvenile.

The driver left the scene of the crash towards the Burke School, according to the police log, but was caught by police within a short period of time.

The teen was scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday in Salem Juvenile Court.
