Torigian Golf Classic Tees Off Earlier This Year in June

The annual golf classic, named in honor of former Mayor Peter Torigian and which supports high school scholarships and local charities, will be held in June instead of September.

Normally, the annual tournament tees off in September, but this year, the Torigian Golf Classic hits the greens at on June 18.

“We moved the tournament up to June as our regular golfers indicated they would prefer to golf earlier in the season, as the fall is often a very busy time period as people get re-focused on business after summer vacations,” said Deanne Healey, President and CEO of the . “Early registrations are coming in fast, so it looks like this was a good idea. It pays to listen to your customers.”

The tournament, which is named in honor of former Mayor Peter Torigian, is jointly put on by the Chamber and the Rotary Club of Peabody. All net proceeds from the event go toward numerous charities supported by the Rotary and the Chamber’s high school scholarship program.

Golfers get to enjoy four hours on the city-owned course and often play with coworkers, friends or business partners. With the classic taking place the Monday after Father's Day, event organizers are hoping people will take advantage of the chance to play another round of golf, and for a good cause, to close out the long weekend.

“Golfing can be an excellent opportunity to get to know a business associate better or actually close a deal, since you spend four hours together without too much distraction,” said Healey. “Recognizing tournament participation is being limited by many companies, partnering together with all three organizations provides a great opportunity to support the community without breaking the bank.”
