VIDEO: Wally the Green Monster Takes Over Brooksby Village
Retirement complex residents celebrate today's Boston Red Sox home opener against the New York Yankees with spirited rally.
Wally the Green Monster, beloved mascot of the Boston Red Sox, helped Brooksby Village residents and staff celebrate today's home opener versus those dreaded New York Yankees with the complex's first ever Red Sox Rally.
Residents were awash in Red Sox hats, jerseys and even some red sox to welcome Wally who burst into the McIntosh Clubhouse function hall just after noon to the Dropkick Murphy's "Shippin Up to Boston."
Brooksby Village staff prepared plenty of Fenway Franks, fresh pop corn and drinks to help residents celebrate the season's first home game at Friendly Fenway.

Some Brooksby Village residents hoped the Red Sox rally would change the team's fortunes after watching their beloved team fall to an 0-5 start.
"I watch every game," said Trudy Dearborn, who wore a Red Sox blanket with photos of some of her favorite players, David Ortiz, Josh Beckett, Jacoby Ellsbury and Daiske Matzuzaka on the back. "I'm very upset, but I haven't given up on them. It's just beginning."

Florence Perkins also hoped Brooksby Village could generate some positive karma and send it the Red Sox way before they play the Yankees later this afternoon.
"You've got to keep up the enthusiasm and never give up. They're going to go all the way," she said.
Brooksby Village residents were given numbers so they could take turns taking photos with Wally. Bill Burke and Sonni Sternberger really enjoyed posing with the Red Sox mascot.
But Burke said he is concerned the Red Sox are digging themselves into an early season hole they might not get out of.
"I read the other day there is no team that ever lost their first four games and went on to win the World Series," he said.
Peg Perkins said Wally the Green Monster is a favorite of her three great granddaughters and she couldn't wait to get copies of the photos she took with Wally so she could show them.
The first ever Red Sox rally also featured some fun aerobic exercise when residents and staff alike sang along with Neil Diamond's "Sweet Caroline," which the Red Sox usually play at Fenway Park during the seventh inning at home games.
If the Red Sox do win their home opener later today, maybe the Brooksby Village Red Sox rally had something to do with it.
