Wait is Almost Over for Peabody’s Softball All-Stars [VIDEO]
The Senior girls will hit the field Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Fernald Field in Wakefield in the first game of best-of-three playoff series.

The wait is just about over for the oldest squad of Peabody Softball All-Stars — game time Sunday against Wakefield is 2 p.m., the first game in the best-of-three playoff series.
“Oh yeah, the girls are ready, the coaches are ready, we can’t wait to get on the field and play,” manager John Barresi said. “This is the first time Peabody’s had a girls team in this tournament and we’re all looking forward to the game Sunday.”
Thirteen girls, ranging in age from 13-16 make up this year’s Peabody Softball Senior All-Stars, representing District 16 in post-season play. The team was put together after the inaugural 2011 Little League season in Peabody after splitting the older girls’ division into Junior and Senior All-Star teams.

The city league, which was created as part of Peabody West Little League, represents the first opportunity for Peabody youngsters to play fast-pitch softball outside of high school.
Now the Senior team will be the last to represent Tanner City in the tournament — both the and Majors (10-12) all-star squads were knocked out earlier this month.

“It’s a double elimination tournament,” Barresi said. “We hope to come out on top Sunday, the second game is Tuesday night at 6 p.m. in Worcester.”
Game three, if necessary, would be played in Worcester on Wednesday night at 6 p.m.
Manager Barresi’s coaching staff includes Tom French and Scott Wallace.
The Senior All-Stars representing Peabody this summer include: Mikayla Wallace, Brianna Silva, Katie O’Brien, Meghan Lurvey, Katherine Lombardi, Gabby Koch, Ashley Jenkins, Paige Hayward, Katie French, Dominique DelBene, Molly Bovio, Juliana Barresi and Christa Baker.
Fernald Field is located at 50 Del Carmine St. in Wakefield, which is off Water Street (Route 129), less than ten miles from Lowell Street in Peabody.
“Our practices have been good, the girls are working together very well,” Barresi said. “Everyone on the team and the coaching staff are looking forward to the first pitch on Sunday afternoon.”
