UPDATE: Walsh Wins State Rep Special Election
City Councilor Tom Walsh outpaced nearest competitor by nearly 2,500 votes.

Peabody, MA - Democrat Tom Walsh won the special state representative election to replace Republican Leah Cole in the 12th Essex District by an overwhelming margin.
Walsh finished with 7,138 votes to 4,644 for Republican Stephanie Peach and 576 for unenrolled candidate Christopher Gallager.
Cole stepped down from her State Rep seat last year to devote more time to her nursing career.

The 12th Essex District is comprised of most of Peabody with the exception of West Peabody.
The last time there was a three-way special election for the 12th Essex Street in 2013, Cole was a narrow surprise winner over established Peabody pols David Gravel and Beverley Griffin Dunne.
