The Delta Generators are keeping it "real" in an increasingly digital world. The established Boston ensemble has just unveiled the second official music video for their track "Mr. Vain," serving as a final look at their highly anticipated studio album, ON & ON, which arrives globally on May 22.

The video for "Mr. Vain," which can be viewed here, was self-produced by the band’s vocalist, Brian Templeton. The song draws inspiration from the Bible's Book of Ecclesiastes, exploring themes of fleeting human effort and the emptiness of vanity.

"’Vanity of vanities, all is vanity’ is a famous refrain... signifying that human effort, labor, and pleasure ‘under the sun’ are fleeting, meaningless, and ultimately empty," shared Templeton.

A Return to Live Roots

While the modern music industry often leans on artificial intelligence and heavy technological polish, the Delta Generators took the opposite approach for ON & ON. The entire record was written, arranged, and rehearsed over eight days and recorded in just two days at Power Station N.E. in Waterford, CT. The session was helmed by Evan Bakke, known for his work with legendary artists like Prince and Warren Haynes.

The philosophy behind the record was simple: play together and record live. "The idea was to get together, play and when something feels right, work it!" the band stated. "No preconceived ideas as to what it should be."

A Local Connection

The Delta Generators have long been a fixture in the regional music scene. Brothers Charlie and Rick O’Neal (guitar and bass) bring a deep history to the group, having previously played with Benjamin Orr of The Cars. Since forming in 2007, the band has grown from a "side project" into a powerhouse of the Boston blues and rock circuit.

Templeton, who joined in 2016 after a successful run with The Radio Kings, has been credited with lifting the group to a new level of showmanship. Drummer Jeff Armstrong notes that this new repertoire is a "pure collaboration" that captures the organic union of the four musicians.

Local fans will have the opportunity to see the band perform live on the very day of the album's release. The Delta Generators are scheduled to appear at the Spire Center for Performing Arts in Plymouth on May 22.

The album ON & ON is currently available for pre-order at www.deltagenerators.com. Fans can also watch the previously released video for "I Got You" online.
