PLYMOUTH, MA — The town of Plymouth is paying tribute to those who put their lives on the line to help secure America's independence.
On Sunday, Oct. 18, the town is inviting residents to attend the Parting Ways commemoration ceremony, which honors Plymouth's Black Revolutionary War veterans.
The ceremony will be held at the Parting Ways Cemetery and historic site, located at 287 Plymouth Road. Dr. Robert A. Bellinger, an associate professor emeritus of history at Suffolk University, will be the keynote speaker.
This year's ceremony will begin at 1 p.m. While carpooling is encouraged, additional parking will be available on Plymouth Road on the Plymouth side of the town line.
The historic site was established by Revolutionary War veterans following the war.
The ceremony will feature an honor guard from American Legion Post 40, Hingham militia reenactors, a wreath-laying ceremony and a commemorative resolution from the Massachusetts House of Representatives.
The event is free and open to the public.
