Bites Nearby: The Greenhouse Café X-press

Head to the Cordage Commerce Center for breakfast or lunch at this hidden eatery.

The is a place to go for a "nice break," be it from work or a doctor's visit, owner Rick Rokes explains. Patrons may take advantage of Wi-Fi and enjoy a coffee or fruit snack while passing some time.

The Greenhouse Café originally opened two years ago in the Plymouth Industrial Park, in a building which featured a greenhouse. At that time, he was the manager. He ended up buying the business and downsizing to the current location at the Cordage Commerce Center in North Plymouth because of high labor costs. The café continues to offer catering and will soon provide delivery.

"It's all fresh, homemade,"Rokes said of the food.

For lunch, the Greenhouse Cafe has fresh sandwiches and salads. The Beef on "Weck" is the café's "signature sandwich." It is made with roasted beef in au jus with horseradish on a salted caraway seed Kaiser roll. A customer favorite is the Turkey Gobbler sandwich, Rokes noted, with turkey, cranberry relish, stuffing and herb mayo. Another sandwich is the Greenhouse Caprese, with mozzarella, basil oil, field greens, tomatoes and balsamic vinaigrette.

Salads include a roast turkey-cobb with greens, tomatoes, avocado, blue cheese, bacon, eggs and sweet peppers, and the Chop Top, with greens, cucumbers, carrots, kalamata olives, tomatoes, peppers, onions, hot peppers and feta.

Cole slaw, potato salad and a white bean dip with foccacia bread make up the side choices.

There are daily lunch specials, and soups that change weekly, the owner added. Tuesday's special was a grilled roast beef and cheddar or a spinach salad for $5.95. Soups included Angus beef chili, buffalo chicken chowder, both $4 for a cup or $5.25 for a bowl, and tomato feta soup, $3 for a cup or $4.25 for a bowl.

The café also serves cookies, brownies and other baked goods. Egg sandwiches and bagels are available for breakfast.

Visitors may enjoy their bites at the tables in front of the café or outside by the pond and gazebo, Rokes said. They may even purchase boxed lunches.

The Greenhouse Café X-press is located at 10 Cordage Park Circle and is open Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. Call (508) 591-8200 to place an order.
