Reading of Mr. Emerson's Wife and Book Signing at the Mayflower Society House

Author Amy Belding Brown to present historic love story, Mr. Emerson's Wife, at the Mayflower Society House

Plymouth, MA - Author Amy Belding Brown will read from her historical novel, Mr. Emerson's Wife, on Saturday, July 5th at 1:00pm at The Mayflower Society House, 4 Winslow Street, Plymouth, MA. Visitors will hear exciting stories of Lidian Jackson Emerson's life with Ralph Waldo Emerson and their close friend Henry David Thoreau. They will be enchanted with the lives and ambitions of this extraordinary group of men and women in the years before the Civil War. 

The fascinating story of Lidian Jackson Emerson will be told in the very mansion owned by her grandfather where she was born and raised until she was 16, and where she stood in the parlor to marry Ralph Waldo Emerson in 1835 within a year of their meeting. "This book combines detailed history with a page-turning illicit love story. It's a look at a rich moment in American History and a great read, a rare combination," wrote Susan Cheever, author of My Name is Bill and Note Found in a Bottle. 

The presentation will be followed by a book signing and light refreshments. Reservations are required. Entry is free to members of the Mayflower Society and $5 for the General Public. About the Author:
Amy Belding Brown is a graduate of Bates College. She lived and worked in Massachusetts before returning to her native Vermont where she continues to write poetry and historical fiction. Her second historical novel, Flight of the Sparrow, will be released July 1st. Brown especially enjoys investigating history: "Writing historical novels allows me to explore an unfamiliar world in all its richness, while giving me an excuse to delve deep into historical books and articles to uncover intriguing facts." She states, "I've always loved the music of words - their rhythms."
